In the last ten years, hanging pictures with inspirational words, phrases, or sentences has been trendy. Some even label their home with words like “kitchen”, “coffee” or “bathroom”. But what about posting Scripture in our homes? Is there merit in hanging verses in our homes? Follow along to learn the top six reasons we should be posting verses in our homes and how we can do that.

Why should I post Scripture in our home?
1. Posting verses in our home keeps the Scriptures always before us.
Deuteronomy 6 talks about keeping the Word of God always before us as we go about our daily lives. Verse nine says, “Write them (the Scriptures) on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.” The Israelites were instructed to do this as a way to remember all that God had done for them and all that He asked them to obey. The same is true for you and me. We need to keep the Word of God always before us to remind us of the Lord and all He requires of those who love Him.
2. Posting verses in our home refocuses our minds and hearts.
Throughout our days we are faced with problems, discouraging news, people who challenge our Christian character, and demanding children. There are times when we have to choose to respond in a godly way when our flesh wants to do otherwise. This is when having Scripture in our homes is rewarding. When we read verses about the faithfulness of our God, the sacrifice of Jesus, or our blessing of motherhood, it changes our perspectives and attitudes. A perfect Scripture hung in just the right place can truly refocus our minds and hearts!

3. Posting verses in our home redirects us away from sin.
What could be better than hanging verses by our TV, on our computers, as the backgrounds of our phones, or on the wall of the playroom to remind us in our quest for purity? This is one practical way to choose holiness for our families. We will be with our children every day and in every situation, but posting Scripture for them reminds everyone that enters your home of the standard that you have set. Hopefully, these words will keep them (and you!) from sin!

4. Posting verses in our home encourages us to memorize them.
Putting memory verses in a prominent position will help you see them and get to know them more quickly. When I have a verse to memorize, I write it on an index card and then post it on my bathroom mirror. I will use the time I am washing my hands, styling my hair, or brushing my teeth to review the verses, setting them in my memory pretty quickly. You could also put decorative verses in your home that you want your family to memorize. Having the Scriptures in view will help us hide them in our hearts!

5. Posting verses in our home reminds us of our purpose.
In the busyness of family life, we can often lose focus on what is really our purpose. We become distracted by folding laundry, washing dishes, or taking the children to practice. How can we remind ourselves of what is our real purpose in life? Post those meaningful verses in your life – whether that’s next to the stove, by the dryer, or on your steering wheel. God’s Word perfectly redirects us and shows us the Truth.
Verses to post: Jeremiah 29:11, Ephesians 2:10, Philippians 2:12-13
6. Posting verses blesses us and those who come to our home.
If you have ever gone through a hard season, God probably used His Word to comfort and bless your heart in a way that only It can. Why not hang this verse or passage so that you will be reminded of it and that others can be blessed by it? If God used it in your life, its significance could also inspire others and point them to the Lord. Using God’s Word throughout your home can be the catalyst that could lead your family and friends to the Lord and impact them eternally.
How should we post verse and what should we post?
Now that we know that placing Scriptures around our home is a good thing for us in our spiritual lives, here is a practical guide for how and what to post.
1. Post verses in any area of our home.
Place verses in any area of your home that is highly visible. You can hang verses on mirrors, on the refrigerator, by the sink, on the walls of the hallway or above your couch. The most important thing to remember is to pick Scriptures that are impactful to you and your family. You can write them by hand on index cards or black paper, print them from a computer, or paint them on a canvas. Keep God’s Words forever before you.
2. Post verses on a prayer wall as a reminder of God’s faithfulness.
We have made it a point to have a prayer wall in our home. It isn’t big. It is just a wooden board with I Thessalonians 5:17 on it. While we love reading, “Pray without ceasing”, we also are encouraged to write prayer requests on index cards and hang them from the clothes pins on the board. Not only is a good reminder for our family to be praying for things, it is also an encouragement as we see the way God has answered those prayers. It has been a real learning tool as we have had to explain that God does not always answer prayer the way that we think He should. In God’s sovereignty and infinite wisdom, He answers in a way that brings Him glory and is for our good.

3. Post verses in the car for your family.
Our children don’t always get along…especially when we are in the van. Are you shocked to hear that? It’s true! Those close quarters for 6 loud children are the perfect elements to create division. In times like these, we turn to the Scriptures — whether it is in listening to songs from the Bible or in posting verses in the van. Focusing our hearts and minds before those elements collide, helps to create peace — even in the van.
Verses: Romans 12:18, John 13:34, Ephesians 4:32, Philippians 2:3-4
4. Post verses in a child’s bedroom.
When we named our six children, we took time to look at their meanings and who those people were in the Bible. We wanted strong names that reflected Biblical characteristics. These are the types of things that are perfect to install on a child’s wall. You could also post the verses of character qualities that you wish for them to develop or post a verse about the Biblical person they are named after. This will serve as a challenge and reminder for your child. (Find out more about inserting character development into your children here!)
For example, our son Josiah was named after the King Josiah in the Scriptures. King Josiah was eight when he became king. He is known for finding the Law, reading it, and then committing to follow it. He destroyed pagan idol worship and repented of his sin and the country’s sin. A great verse to post on Josiah’s bedroom wall could be from 2 Kings 23:25, “Neither before nor after Josiah was there a king like him who turned to the Lord as he did — with all his heart and with all his soul, and with all his strength, in accordance wtih all the Law of Moses.”
