Centering Your Family’s Hearts on God this Valentines Day through Books

January 12, 2025 by thebiblicallymindedfamily 5 Comments

The Christmas decorations are barely put away when the Valentines displays are out in full bloom in the stores. I love seeing the pink and red hearts all around. But as I have tried to find good books for my family to enjoy, I have been confronted with the world’s definitions of what love and family look like. For the Biblically-Minded Family we look to the Word of God to tell us what the Truth is. He gives us a framework of makes a family and what the definition of love truly is. Below you will find great books for Valentines Day. These are Christian Valentines books for kids that align with the Scripture and will bless your family. Some of them may be ones you’ll want to read regularly — even when it isn’t Valentines Day.

These books will center your family’s hearts on God and His Word this Valentines Day. They will be a springboard for conversations about our love for each other, Biblical self-worth, and God’s love for us.

This I know: Seeing God

in the World He Made

by Clay Anderson

“Jesus loves me, this I know, for the whole world tells me so.”

Have you noticed the fingerprints of God in the world around us? Creation tells us about its Creator: His beauty in the trees and His power in the thunder and His eternity in the night sky.

Join a young girl and her family on an unforgettable road trip. Witness the wonder of God’s world and see how all of creation confirms what the Bible tells us: Jesus loves me, this I know.

*This is one of my top Christian Valentines books for kids!*

God’s Great Love For You

By Rick Warren

Show children how big and wide God’s love is with this charming picture book. A family favorite for generations, Rick Warren approached the thoughtful message with the wonder of a child and encourages us all to rest in God’s peace and hope.

You are Special

By Max Lucado

In Wemmickville lives a Wemmick named Punchinello. Each day the residents award stickers―gold stars for the talented, smart, and attractive Wemmicks, and gray dots for those who make mistakes or are just plain ordinary. Punchinello, covered in gray dots, begins to feel worthless, but one day he visits Eli, his creator, and he learns that his worth comes from a different source.

Max Lucado’s beautiful story reminds us that we are special to God just the way we are. Parents and children alike will enjoy this touching portrayal of an eternal truth.

Just the Way You Are

By Max Lucado

One of the greatest gifts parents can give their children is the assurance that Mom and Dad love them just as they are, apart from anything that they do. But telling them once won’t make it sink in. Kids need to be reminded of it over and over, until those words get inside their hearts.

In the same way, children need to hear again and again that their Heavenly Father loves them and wants to spend time with them—even if they’re not wonderfully talented or extremely smart or exceptionally popular.

That message of God’s unconditional acceptance and deep desire to enjoy a friendship with His children is at the heart of this book.

Mostly What God does is Love You

By Savannah Guthrie

Mostly what God does is Love You

Mostly what God does is love you.

What if we shared this simple, beautiful, Biblical truth with our children from the youngest of ages—how different would we be? How wonderfully could this shape our perspectives from childhood on, knowing that the God who made all the wonders in creation—who hung the stars in the sky, who tells the wind where to blow—knows your name and loves you oh so very much? This #1 New York Times bestselling picture book—Mostly What God Does is Love You—does exactly that and so much more!

Love Your Neighbor

By Melody Carlson

One in a series of three books from award-winning children’s author Melody Carlson, presents children with typical situations they may face every day but shows how the child should conduct themselves by illustrating what Jesus would have said or done.

God Gave Us Love

By Lisa Tawn Bergren

As Little Cub and Grampa Bear’s fishing adventure is interrupted by mischievous otters, the young polar bear begins to question why we must love others . . . even the seemingly unlovable — part of the bestselling God Gave Us series!

In answering Little Cub’s questions, Grampa Bear gives tender explanations that teach Little Cub about the different kinds of love that is shared between families, friends, and mamas and papas.
