Christian Easter Books for Children

March 11, 2025 by thebiblicallymindedfamily 1 Comment

The pinnacle holiday of our Christian faith is just about here. Easter… Resurrection Sunday. It doesn’t really matter what we call it. What does matter is the life-giving hope that we have because Jesus’ raised from the dead. He defeated Satan and death once for all time. While some believers that I know focus on the death of Jesus on Easter Weekend, I believe that Sunday morning’s hope is definitely what we need to celebrate. These books that I have listed below are great Christian Easter Books for Children. They aren’t filled with Easter Eggs and Easter bunnies but rather they focus on Jesus… the reason for this season! Which others would you add to my list? Tell me in the comments.

1. The Tale of Three Trees, by Angela Elwell Hunt

Children will be deeply touched as they understand the significance of Christ’s life and His atoning sacrifice on the cross. This beautifully illustrated book will soon become an Easter favorite. It is an American folktale with a timeless story for generations and has been a best seller for years. It helps children capture the significance of Easter from a Biblical perspective. This simple story is one that children can easily tell others so its legacy will live on.

2. The Donkey Who Carried a King by R. C. Sproul

The Donkey Who Carried a King gives a unique perspective on the events of Passion Week and calls all believers to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus was willing to leave the glories of heaven to suffer and die in this world on our behalf. Therefore, we should serve Him with all our hearts. Written by theologian, author, and teacher, Dr. R. C. Sproul, this book offers biblical teaching of the Suffering Servant who bore the sins of all the world.

3. Benjamin’s Box: The Story of the Resurrection Eggs, By Melody Carlson

Benjamin’s Box: The Story of the Resurrection Eggs brings the story of Jesus’ time in Jerusalem, His death, and resurrection to life for readers young and old. It is ideal to use alongside “Resurrection Eggs” that have become very popular during the Easter Season and can be made or purchased here. This can be used at home or in a large group setting to grasp the extent of Jesus’ love.

4. Easter Is Coming! By Tama Fortner

“Mommy and her little ones are settling in for story time, and this time it’s the biblical story of Easter that she’s telling. As the youngsters hear God’s tale unfold with its sometimes somber notes about sin and death, they are softly and continually reminded, ‘But Easter is coming!’ By the end of the book, the anticipation has built and the children can celebrate the ending and the glory of Easter Sunday.”

This story is meant to be read over and over during the weeks leading up to the Resurrection of Jesus to create the excitement of the power of the Jesus over death. Its colorful illustrations are beautiful reminder of spring and the hope of new life!

5. Amon’s Adventure: A Family Story for Easter, by Arnold Ytreeide

From the bestselling author of Lent and Advent children’s books, Arnold Ytreeide, comes this book dedicated to Easter. “With short, exciting chapters, reflections for family devotions, and advice for making Lent a meaningful experience, Amon’s Adventure will help families discover anew the spiritual power of the resurrection story.” Read it over the course of several days or one longer sitting to older children.

These Christian books would all be great Easter books for your children as you reflect on the true meaning of Easter. Find them in the links provided on Amazon, in your local library, or on Kindle. These are not the only great Easter books, though.

What Easter books do you and your family enjoy? Tell me your top picks in the comments below.
