Five Strategies for Communicating the Gospel to Children

March 28, 2026 by thebiblicallymindedfamily Leave a Comment

Sharing the Good News of Jesus can be overwhelming to people. What will I say? Will they believe me? What if I miss something important? But when you consider giving the Gospel to children, most adults can be even MORE overwhelmed. The Gospel is simple but complex. It is easy enough for children to understand but difficult for adults to grasp. In my experience in children’s ministry over the last 25 years, I have used five strategies for communicating the Gospel to Children. Read each of these below, decide which one or ones you think will fit best, and then practice! Challenge your children’s ministry leaders and teachers to learn one of these strategies as well.

1. The Wordless Book

The Wordless Book is a great strategy for communicating the Gospel to children because it is a book with no pictures. It is great for children who are non-readers because even they can “read” this book. It’s simple design with just colors from the rainbow tell the story of salvation through Jesus in a straightforward and simple ways that just uses the colors. It is easy to remember, and there is even a song that reviews each shade. To learn more, CLICK HERE, for my article on using the Wordless Book.

2. The Bridge Illustration

The Bridge Illustration is a great tool to share your faith with children and adults. It involves drawing a picture showing that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. This illustration can be drawn on a napkin at a restaurant, a paper at home, or a white board at school. The Bridge illustration is simple enough for people of all ages to explain and understand. My article about using the Wordless Book can be found HERE!

3. The EVANGECUBE

The EVANGECUBE is a great strategy to use when sharing the Gospel. It is a resource that you can purchase at www.e3resources.org. This cube looks like a Rubix cube, but each square is a part of a picture. When the cube is turned and twisted, the cube shows a new picture of the story of Salvation. The pictures are well-made, and the way the cube is manipulated is fascinating for children and adults. It certainly gets everyone’s attention! 4. The Romans Road

This next strategy for sharing the Good News of Salvation through Jesus uses just one book of the Bible. This is an interesting way to show a person what the Bible says. The Romans Road shows you step by step The Problem we all have, The Penalty we face, The Present that God freely gives us, The Path that we need to take (JESUS), and finally, The Peace that this creates in our lives when we become right with God. This systematic approach is easy to follow and is interesting to many adults. Do you want to read more details? Check out my article HERE.

5. The Cross Illustration

This strategy is sure to get the attention of children and adults in your life. I always start with a challenge, “Do you think I can use this plain sheet of paper and by making just one long cut, create a cross?” The children will emphatically say NO! Now you have them hooked. But carefully folding the paper and telling a story that corresponds with each shape, I share my faith and what Jesus has done on the cross! The children are amazed when I actually DO make a cross! Wanna impress your friends, too? Check out the details HERE!

There are many ways to share your faith with those around you, but the most important thing is to START! Begin by practicing one of these ways, pray for opportunities to share, and then tell others about what Jesus as done!

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)
